Today, I downloaded HPOO - 9.03 patch release and started to play with it in my VMs.

My HPSA VMs Configuration Details:
- 2 Oracle VMs:
RAM : 10GB
Hard Disk : 100GB
Oracle Version : Oracle 11g (11.1.0.7.0) Standard Edition
OS : RHEL 5 (64Bit)

-2 HPSA Core VMs:
RAM : 10GB
Hard Disk : 100GB
OS : RHEL 5 (64Bit)

Here are my upgrade tests:

* Upgrade a HPOO 9.02.002 standalone Linux OS core to HPOO 9.03, where the DB [MySQL] on the local VM.

* Upgrade a HPOO 9.02.002 standalone Linux OS core to HPOO 9.02.0002, where the DB [MySQL] on the remote database [on a different Linux OS VM].

* Upgrade a HPOO 9.02 standalone Linux OS core to HPOO 9.03, where the DB [Oracle] on the local VM.

* Upgrade a HPOO 9.02 standalone Linux OS core to HPOO 9.03, where the DB [Oracle] on the remote database [on a different Linux OS VM].

* Upgrade HPOO 9.02 Cluster cores [both are in RHEL5] to HPOO 9.03, where the 2 DB's [MySQL] on the remote databases [on two different Linux OS VM].

I also patched HPSA 9.03 on a cluster cores and standalone core [with local DBs and remote DBs] about 10 times. No failures faced.

After patch Upgrade, I tested a few build-in accelerator packs for HPOO flows, OS Flows, HPSA functions, it worked as expected. :) Nothing much to complaint or log a case with HP Support.

As HP Database and Middleware Automation is also bundled as tools in HPSA and hence HPDMA has latest version 9.11 in the HPSA 9.11 patch release.

Even though the login screen shows as HP Database and Middleware Automation version 9.11, the HPDMA just use the Web Server: 9.11.0 Repository: 9.10.0.

Another important thing, in HPDMA is a part of the tools in the HPSA Java Client it is tightly integrated with the "User and Group" permissions.

The following are the three different of permissions in HPSA Java Client for HPDMA:

1] Access Database & Middleware Automation

2] Create Workflows

3] Manage Database & Middleware Automation

Attached is the screen snapshot of it :

I don't have any Management or HPDMA Service Packs to learn more about HPDMA :( but currently understand how HPDMA is integrated in HPSA.
As per the HPSA 9.11 release notes, these two components are implemented and integrated as part of the sclice bundle for the Remediation Scalability Enhancements. I have test or have any use case for this.

Forget to add my version screen for HPSA 9.11, here it is :
In the meanwhile, Puppet Enterprise Version 1.1, 1.2 was widely used by Fortune 500 Companies and many startup including Twitter, Zyang etc., and one of the important open source product for Run Book Automation (RBA).
Since my background is Sys Admin, I have strong passion for both HP Operation Orchestration (HPOO) and Puppet Enterprise (PE) because of capabilities of automation.
I'm preparing a use case for both HP Operation Orchestration (HPOO) and Puppet Enterprise (PE) for Sys Admin Automation task and DB Automation task, to check the performance, and will keep post on this.

Regards,
Rameshkumar
EMail I'D : RameshKumar132@gmail.com
Blog : RameshKumar132.blogspot.com

Sent from my BlackBerry Smart Phone.-:- Rameshkumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04477579289297889302noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2386735997943597348.post-82848201049635386142012-01-12T22:20:00.000-08:002012-01-12T22:20:57.585-08:00HPSA - HPSM - uCMDB - Integration with HPOO for Change Management

The patch version is HPNA 9.10.02. [The HPNA 9.10.01 patch release on July 27th, 2011. After 5 months, HP released this second patch for NA 9.10, which is little early on their patching cycle. :)]

But for me, it always extreme happy to play, install and test the newly release patch version. And this time, I might be first person to play, install and test it :) Today started to play with it in my VMs.

My VMs Configuration Details:
- 2 Oracle VMs:
RAM : 10GB
Hard Disk : 100GB
Oracle Version : Oracle 11g (11.1.0.7.0) Standard Edition
OS : RHEL 5 (64Bit)
-2 Core VMs:

RAM : 10GB
Hard Disk : 100GB
OS : RHEL 5 (64Bit)

* Upgrade of a standalone HPNA core's is very simple and easy. The patch install smooth without any issue as normal.

* Upgrade of a mesh HPNA core installation, also simple but little bit of additional patience and bit careful because of the Oracle RAC Cluster's replication.

As usual, here is my HPNA 9.10.02 Core's Version Page :)

After patching, I tested a few HPNA functions, it worked as expected. :) Nothing much to complaint or log a case with HP Support.

Today Fri, Jan 6, 2012, I have successfully installed HP Operation Orchestration (HPOO) 9.02.0002 - High Availability and Load Balanced in MySQL Clustered DB.

I use RHEL5 based 4 VMs for this experiment
- 2 for HP Operation Orchestration (HPOO)
- 2 for MySQL Clustered DB 7.1.15

I use the HP Operation Orchestration (HPOO) default Taracotta for load balance and high availability. The installation process is kind of confusing, but with little extra focus and couple of tries, it can be successful.

I face the following three issue/problems while installing HP Operation Orchestration (HPOO) High Availability and load balancing clusters:

1] Configuration or Network Naming resolution problems.

2] Newly Joined Node Contains dirty database issues.

3] Repository Corrupted problem.

All those problems are fixed. Now working on Load balance performance metrics.

Over all, in my experience, compare with older versions, the current version is much stable and easy to install and configure the load balance and high availability clusters in HP Operation Orchestration (HPOO).

Please let me know if you face any issues of problems in HP Operation Orchestration (HPOO) load balancing and high availability clusters, I can able to fix it.

Good Luck.
Finally I figured out,

In the HPNA Install path /opt/NA/jre, there is an adjustable_options.rcx file, as given below:

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">[root@hpna910 jre]# pwd/opt/NA/jre
[root@hpna910 jre]# ls -als adjustable_options.rcx
12 -rw-r----- 1 root root 5083 Dec 8 18:22 adjustable_options.rcx
[root@hpana910 jre]#

Add the following strings for local user authentication via local database.
<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">
<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><array name="security/local_auth/accounts"></array>true
<nothtml> <array name="security/local_auth/accounts">
<value>NASUSER</value>
<value>ramesh</value>
</array>
</nothtml>

The important thing, after local authentication strings are added into the adjustable_options.rcx, we DON'T need to restart the HPNA components, the local authentication will work on the fly.

I have tested couple of times the above theory. It is working fine for me without any issue.

Please test it and let me know if there is any issue.

Back in Aug. 26, 2010, HP acquired Stratavia, a database and application automation company and renamed the their product as HP Database and Middleware Automation (DMA), Since then I have been cracking my head, how the HP DMA integrates with HP Business Service Automation (BSA) suite or HP Server Automation (SA) product. [Again during that HPSA version is 7.8x]

Later on, HP Database and Middleware Automation become the integral part of HP BSA suite of software for automating database and middleware automation.

The HP DMA solution packs automate administrative tasks associated with databases and application servers. Database and Middleware Automation is achieved by using pre-tested workflows gleaned from years of experience and best practices which chronicle the steps for provisioning and configuration, patching, compliance, and release management for the industry's popular databases and application servers. By using these out-of-the-box workflows, database and application server administrators can save time, reduce errors, and scale their operations. Seasoned administrators can use these workflows as starting points and tailor them to match the unique requirements of their environments.

The HP DMA Database Patching Solution Pack lets customers quickly identify & roll out patches to various databases:

The automated DMA patching process includes:

Identifying the Patch Candidates
- Discover database patch levels across the enterprise. Filter for databases requiring a patch.

Staging Patch Binaries
- Download & stage patch binaries to each system before or during the change window.

Applying the Patches
- Automate one or more patch processes in parallel with a button click, or schedule the patch operation.

Rollback Patches
- Rollback a patch in the event of a patch failure, or at any time after a database has been patched.

HP validates the DMA Patching Process against every new patch. If changes are required to the patching process, customers receive a solution pack update. In the event of a change to the patching solution pack, the update requires less than an hour to import.

Currently with my HP Server Automation 9.10.02 Patched VM, I tested HP DMA application or component, it works seamlessly without any issue. Attached is the screen snapshot of it

One thing, I'm not sure about the use-case or extensive use of the HP DMA [like HPSA or HPNA]. I trying to develop DB flows and experimenting the product for creating the use-cases. Hopefully I figureout something.
Back in July, I have a thought of upgrade HP Network Automation (HPNA) Core from 7.60.02 straight to 9.10.01 version.
As I was busy with the family and travels and HP Server Automation (HPSA) tests/upgrade, hence I don't have a chance to play around my old thought of upgrade my VM HP Network Automation (HPNA) Core from 7.60.02 straight to 9.10.01 version. Yesterday, I have few hrs, I start on that idea. It went very well.
Here are the step by step process that makes everything possible for my testing experiment:
1] Take snapshot of both HP Network Automation (HPNA) 7.60.02 core VM and remote DB Oracle VM.
2] Take copy of /opt/NA folder.
3] Upgrade core with the 9.10 upgrade media image. [The upgrade process takes more 4 hrs depend on the DB size.]
4] Patch with 9.10.01 media.
After installing, I tested couple of important and core HPNA functions, it worked as expected. :). The HP Network Automation (HPNA) GUI and application performance are very easy and good compare with the older versions. Nothing much to complaint or log a case with HP Support.
So far, I have upgrade and did all the installation operations, with HPNA 9.10.01 on a multiple standalone cores [with or without HP Network Automation (HPNA) satellite] and in a multi-master mesh about 4 times. No failures or issues occurred, everything smooth.
The HPNA 9.10.01 doesn't have any new SR (service requests) Enhancement and hence right now, I am testing the performance, new GUI .
Attached is the snapshot of HP Network Automation (HPNA) older and newer versions. ;)

If you have questions on this release or installation issues, please feel free to contact me. Good Luck.

-:- Rameshkumar
EMail ID : RameshKumar132@gmail.com
Blog : Rameshkumar132.blogspot.com-:- Rameshkumarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04477579289297889302noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2386735997943597348.post-9422763045810250562011-11-28T17:13:00.001-08:002011-11-28T17:13:24.579-08:00HP Server Automation (HPSA) Satellite :: Issue and FixToday I spend a lot time in fixing a long time "bothering" HP Server Automation (HPSA) Satellite issue.

Problem: [Almost 200] Agents that connect to the primary or secondary satellite, frequently having the certificate issues or traffic problem. The communication test failing on those 200 agents.

Root Cause of the Problem : The SSL Certificates and Crypto certificates are messed up and make the satellite to SA Core communications lags and end-up agent communication tests failed [with certificates error or time-out errors].

Fix : Remove both the [primary and secondary] Satellites SSL Certificates and Crypto certificates, uninstall the agent gateways, agent, agent cache and re-install the agent gateways with the proper SSL Certificates and Crypto certificates from the SA Core.

Current Status : The old satellite Realm removed and new Realm is created. All the 200 agents are started to responding/communicating back to new satellite Realm from the failover state. I have run the Communication test for 20 random servers, everything looks good

Current Setup : Now the new satellite Realm has two satellites a Primary Satellite] and a Secondary Satellite. The Secondary Satellite is setup as Load Balancer and Fail over to the Primary Satellite. The Primary Satellite is setup ONLY the failover for the agents communicate and connect to the HP SA Primary and Secondary Cores.

During the whole exercise, I was using HP Server Automation (HPSA) 7.80 version Satellite Base and OS Prov CD for re-installing the HP Server Automation (HPSA) Satellite but the HP Server Automation (HPSA) core is on 7.84. After both the primary and secondary satellites are installed with 7.80, I patched it with 7.84 patch iso image.

The entire stuffs takes only 1 hour. ;) I can sleep tonight very well because one of my long pending and bothering satellite issue is fixed.

Let me know if you have any question on this.
HP released HP Operations Orchestration - 9.02.0002 [ patch release] on Nov 22 ,the third patch release of the minor version of HPOO 9.02. And an hotfix patch for the early patch 9.02.0001. This patch release is a cumulative release that includes updates from the previously released patch 9.02.0001. So the HPOO Infrastructure need install or upgrade to HPOO 9.02 before applying this patch.

Yesterday, I downloaded HPOO - 9.02.0002 patch release and started to play with it in my VMs and Lab Physical Blades.

[I haven't did much research with HPOO - 9.02.0001 and keep my HPOO Cores with HPOO 9.02 version and did all these upgrade tests :). I also did one upgrade test with HPOO 9.02.0001 to HPOO 9.02.0002, but most of the tests are HPOO 9.02 to HPOO 9.02.0002.]

Here is upgrade tests:

* Upgrade a HPOO 9.02 standalone Linux OS core to HPOO 9.02.0002, where the DB [MySQL] on the local VM.

* Upgrade a HPOO 9.02 standalone Linux OS core to HPOO 9.02.0002, where the DB [MySQL] on the remote database [on a different Linux OS VM].

* Upgrade a HPOO 9.02 standalone Linux OS core to HPOO 9.02.0002, where the DB [Oracle] on the local VM.

* Upgrade a HPOO 9.02 standalone Linux OS core to HPOO 9.02.0002, where the DB [Oracle] on the remote database [on a different Linux OS VM].

* Upgrade HPOO 9.02 Cluster cores [both are in RHEL5] to HPOO 9.02.0002, where the 2 DB's [MySQL] on the remote databases [on two different Linux OS VM].

* Upgrade a HPOO 9.02.0001 standalone Linux OS core to HPOO 9.02.0002, where the DB [MySQL] on the remote database [on a different Linux OS VM].

As always, I attached my HPOO 9.02.0002 Core's Version Page :)

After installing, I tested a important and core HPOO functionalities, it worked as expected. :)

The following are the new New Defect Fixes in HPOO 9.02.0002:

QCCR1D139261: Patch 9.02.0001 breaks HTML formatting in transitions.

QCCR1D139262: Could not start Central servlet. Version check has failed. Incorrect parsing of Oracle database URL causes the patch to fail during installation.

QCCR1D139263: Applying 9.02.0001 patch on Linux fails with array index out of bounds exception. Incorrect parsing of Oracle database URL causes the patch to fail during installation.

HPOO 9.02.0002 doesn't have any new Enhancements and hence I test above mention three fixes and did couple of performance tests.

As far performance tests [on a standalone core - Linux OS VM, Remote MySQL DB], based on the built-in flows like the HPSA Software Policy attachment, Unix OS Ping Tests and Unix OS Hardware Details flows, everything went smooth but performance tests [on a cluster cores - Linux OS VM, Remote Clustered MySQL DB], same built-in flows execution went smooth but it takes longer time than the standalone core., which is not normal compare with the older versions. [I am thinking of the VM Memory but I working on this.]

If you have questions on this release or installation issues, please feel free to contact me. Good Luck.
HP released HP Server Automation - 9.10.02 patch on Nov 2 ,the second patch release of the major version of HPSA 9.10.

I was busy with the family and travels and hence I don't have a chance to test it until yesterday.

One thing, I'm not sure, the naming of the patches, until HPSA 9.10.01 patch, the names are same but in this patch version, HP named the patch with the "MPQ", I'm not sure what is MPQ?

SRVA_00084 ServAuto MPQ 9.10.02 part1
SRVA_00085 ServAuto MPQ 9.10.02 part2

Yesterday, I downloaded the patch release of HPSA 9.10.02 and started to play with it in my VMs and Lab Physical Blades.

* Upgrade on a standalone core [which on HPSA 9.10.01] to new patch is very simple and easy.
* Upgrade on a single or two slices, also goes smooth without any issue.
After HPSA 9.10 release, my interested on HPSA 9.0x versions very low :) but did couple of testings and installations on HPSA 9.04.

Good thing is that without any failure, I upgrade my HPSA 9.03 [Standalone Core with remote MR [Two VMs]] Core to HPSA 9.04.
I did testing in couple of scenarios, for more than 10 times, the HPSA Installed successfully. The functional testing went smooth.

Attach is the snapshot of the HPSA 9.04 version details :)
Fours years before, today, 6/20/2008, this picture was taken with my boss in GE. He is Ben Gross. I work for Ben for 18 months, and managed GE GIS Opsware Infrastructure in Alpharetta, GA. He is one of the good hearted man that work I with. We both had a good time, brain Storm discussions sessions for hrs and hrs.

Those 18 months, when I am with him, many things changed in my life - personal life, professional life and career. I learned a lot with and from him. I come to US as mid-level user for Opsware, under leadership, I grow as a SME and architect in Opsware/HPSA.

After leaving GE/GIS, I also stay close touch with Ben, either in phone or email and also keep communicating with him from time to time. It is really make me to go into a right direction in carrer.

Miss working with you Ben. All the best and good luck.

The HPSA Java Client 9.10, have an interface or web call for bring up the HP Database Middleware Automation application.

Attached is the snap of it,

<img border="0" height="250px" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Z-syoM6rqfgQK_WBwZKHjHOSCcXMuvpGnbW7c4-S4_8VFQMQ3aX6fJBbL4IC_xD4xJHySzh0_TMQ5eIwna3z4S1yIQI6uFSrehV97gYZu-oW2wXxMn374vipXKmUNp9qDWn02cTdSu0U/s320/hpsa-910-dma.bmp" width="320px" />

On the user, choose the Database and Middlware Automation option, a HPDMA page opens.

The HPDMA works on https://<hpsacore>:4433/dma/

The most important thing about this HPDMA with HPSA 9.10 is that, HPSA Installer doesn't ask any options or choice or questions during the interview process of oiresponds file creation. That's good thing.
The Long expected and anticipated, HP SA Web Client Interface Migration to Java Client Interface is made a significant progress in this version, even though it is 100% yet.

In the HPSA 9.10 Java Client, couple of Web Client funationatlites are migrated to Java Client, administration tab like

1] Customers
2] Facilities
3] Users and Group

All the migrated functionalities are still available in the Web Client Interface. I'm not sure what is the purpose of keep the same functionalities in two interface. This will leads a confusion to the customers and users. :)

Attached is the snap of HP SA 9.10 Version, Java Client Interface, Administration Tab,

Good move but needs lots of work on this Web Client Migration to Java Client.

Over the weekend, on June 16th, 2011, HP released patch for HP Server Automation - 9.10. The successor major version of HPSA 9.00.

I downloaded it in the same day and started to play with it in my VMs and Lab Physical Blades.

* Installation on a standalone core is very simple and easy.
* Installation on a single or two slices, also simple but little bit of additional patience. :)
* Upgrade a standalone core from HPSA 9.04 to HPSA 9.10 makes me crazy. But finally I make it.

As always, I attached my HPSA 9.10 Core's Version Page :)

<img border="0" height="186px" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjEJ36WFqtB_HaPDMHMZHVWHF7SpehrxlOO20GhXRXFj0yH8isb6bVpjlFXYgYOu7VMMONiNIqZFdB7GCV1OZgGQUJWAHqX-EDc6y7ZvESKFjPagYAW1UcMpEKyqr6H3F-XcaazzCoWYrN/s320/hpsa-910-version-details.bmp" width="320px" />

After installing, I tested a few HPSA functions, it worked as expected. :) Nothing much to complaint or log a case with HP Support.

So far, I have installed , upgrade and did all the installation operations, with HPSA 9.10 on a multiple slices core and in a multi-master mesh about 5 times. No failures faced.

Many new features are in this major version. This is a good clean version in terms of both cosmatic and performance based.

Good Luck.
